Considering Wireless Broadband For Laptops

October 16th, 2008

I was talking to a friend yesterday about Wireless Broadband for Laptops.
I really need to get out more, and a broadband laptop can help with that.
What I’ve read about Laptop Wireless Internet is promising. There are more options nowadays.
I think the ability to get out of the office and get things done outside is worth the expense for sure.
Watch this space.

coverage!

October 1st, 2008

man, cell phones can really be a blessing….you’re stuck in the middle of nowhere, got a flat tire, or what not.  But I really on my phone so much more than just for emergency type calls anymore….it’s my home phone, I don’t even have another one, so when I can’t get a signal, it’s quite a hassle.  I have Verizon though, so it’s almost never a problem, but i was considering switching to tracfone and I’ve heard they resell other carriers airtime, so it’s like having every network in one.  I think I will go for it, because I’ll pay probably $20 per month versus the $50 I pay now.

T1 Versus Dsl

September 26th, 2008

Many of us have heard about a T1 internet connection and a Dsl connection. However, most of us do not really know the difference. In terms of speed, a T1 line might be a bit quicker than a standard Dsl upgrade. A T1 internet connection is also a dedicated line. With Dsl there may be many different users on the same line, on a T1 line it is just you. The big difference is the type of use a t1 connection gets as opposed to a Dsl line. A T1 line is typically employed in a business setting, where as a Dsl line is the home answer to the blazing fast internet connection of a T1 line.  There are quite a few companies that offer both - many phone companies offer both DSL and T1 directly.  One option for people in SBC’s coverage area is sbc snet dsl - before you take the plunge and purchase a T1 line, consider SBC DSL first.

Biometric scanners - no longer science fiction

September 25th, 2008

In lots of movies we’ve seen biometric scanner technology used to control access to buildings, apartments, doors on spaceships, computers, cars, and more.  This is no longer just in the movies - many companies are using biometric security to secure access to sensitive areas of their company and computer systems.  A common biometric security device in movies is the biometric retina scanner - these really do exist.  You step up to the scanner, place your eye within range of the scanning opening, and it scans your retina.  Then it matches the pattern it finds in your eye with a pattern stored on a computer - if they match, it gives you access.  This would not necessarily be great for a laptop or desktop computer, but it can be useful to control access to doors and buildings.

An Advanced Form Of Web Hosting

September 25th, 2008

There are many ways by which a company can handle sensitive data which is stored in its records. One of the primary ways is through colocation server hosting. This process is basically a commercial method of supplying internet or a leased line connection to one or more servers. These servers are kept in an environment which resembles a server room. In computer jargon, the process includes the running of multiple applications or data in a single process. It may be a single computer, storage unit or a single data centre. Co-location server hosting is an advanced form of web hosting.
