Types Of Computer Viruses: Overwrite Viruses

June 7th, 2008 | by admin |

There was a time when system administrators particularly dreaded words like Trivial.88.D or Trj.Reboot. These are not gibberish but the names of some of the most notorious overwrite viruses. These famous viruses are known to affect a file and overwrite themselves on whole or part of the file. The result is that the file becomes totally or partially useless. This is an almost irrecoverable data loss. What's more, there is not much of a change in the size of infected files. This means that administrators and users would not even know about the file infection before it is too late.
