Of Mouse and Men

I’ve seen a lot of great digital art. I’ve seen some crappers too. After seeing the good stuff, one starts to wonder how they’re done. I mean, there are some mindblowing explosions of color and 3d effects out there. And then there are others that make you feel like you’re in a time-warp back to the days of 8-bit computer gaming. Hello Mario! I don’t even think there’s any reason for it what with all of the teaching available right at your fingertips.

There are so many great tutorials for digital drawing out there. When I look at some of this digital art, I don’t even think that the artist realizes there are ways to draw on the computer that don’t involve herk-and-jerk mouse movements. First of all, there are computer algorithms that can create beautiful abstract swirls and fractal generations. There are also plenty of hand-tools such as digital graphics tablets that allow someone with a lot of on-paper drawing experience to accomplish what they’ve already been trained to do. So cut it out with all of these MS-Paint creations guys, my eyes are hurtin and you will be too if I catch you at it!
